National Surveys Scheduled in India for 2025

The Indian government, through the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) and its National Statistics Office (NSO), is starting several important surveys in January 2025. These surveys will collect information about different aspects of life in India, like health, communication, education, and jobs.

Here's a simple explanation:

  • What surveys are being done?

    • NSS 80th Round: This survey will focus on how people spend money on health.

    • Comprehensive Modular Survey: This will collect data on telecommunications and digital skills.

    • Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS): This survey will track employment and unemployment.

    • Annual Survey on Unincorporated Enterprises (ASUSE): This will focus on small businesses that are not registered as companies (like local shops).

  • Why are these surveys important? They provide important information about the social and economic situation in India. This information helps the government make better policies.

  • What's new this time? The surveys will be designed to give information not just for the whole country, but also for each district. This will be more helpful for local governments. The PLFS will also provide more frequent updates (monthly and quarterly) on the job situation.

  • How will they collect the data? Trained surveyors will visit households selected using a scientific method to make sure the data represents the whole population. They'll use tablets and special software (e-SIGMA) to collect the information.

  • What will the PLFS tell us? It will give information about how many people are employed and unemployed in cities and villages.

  • What will the ASUSE tell us? It will give information about small businesses, like how many people they employ and how much money they make.

  • Who else is involved? State governments will also be involved in using the data to make plans for their local areas.

In simple terms: The Indian government is starting several surveys to learn more about the lives of people in India, including their health, access to technology, education, and jobs. The information collected will help the government make better decisions and policies to improve people's lives. They are using new technology and methods to make the data more accurate and useful, especially at the local level.
