Manastu Space Achieves Success in Green Propulsion

A space tech startup called Manastu Space, started by graduates from IIT Bombay, has successfully tested a new "green" rocket propulsion system called VYOM 2U.

Here's a simple explanation:

  • What is VYOM 2U? It's a new type of rocket engine that uses non-toxic and environmentally friendly fuel. This is important because traditional rocket fuel can be harmful to the environment and to people.

  • Who made it? Manastu Space, a company founded in 2017 by two IIT Bombay graduates, Tushar Jadhav and Ashtesh Kumar. They focus on making space travel more sustainable.

  • Where was it tested? It was tested on something called POEM-4, which is part of an Indian rocket called PSLV-C60.

  • What is POEM? POEM stands for PSLV Orbital Experimental Module. It's a special part of the rocket that stays in space after launching satellites. It acts like a platform where companies and researchers can do experiments in space without having to launch a whole new rocket, making it cheaper.

  • What happened during the test? The VYOM 2U engine fired for 30 seconds and tilted the POEM platform by 24 degrees. This showed that the engine works and can be controlled accurately.

  • Why is this important?

    • Environmentally friendly: It uses cleaner fuel, reducing the environmental impact of space missions.

    • Safer for humans: The fuel is less toxic, making it safer for people working with it.

    • Ready for use: The system has passed many tests and is now ready to be used in real space missions.

  • What's next for Manastu Space? They plan to use the POEM platform for more experiments in space, like growing seeds and testing ways to capture space junk. They are also growing their team to get ready to sell their technology to other companies.

In simple terms: A startup has created a new, cleaner, and safer rocket engine called VYOM 2U. It was successfully tested in space on a special platform provided by ISRO. This is a big step towards making space travel more environmentally friendly.
