Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, announced a major investment plan to improve Delhi’s transport system. The government will invest ₹12,500 crore along with ₹1,200 crore from a special fund (CRIF). This plan is focused on reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality in Delhi, especially before the upcoming elections.
The plan includes connecting key roads like the Urban Extension Road (UER-II) to major expressways like the Delhi-Katra, Delhi-Dehradun, and Delhi-Mumbai expressways. This will provide faster and direct routes for vehicles traveling from areas like Jammu, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan to places like the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Travel time from places like Dehradun to the airport will also reduce from 1.5 hours to just 45 minutes.
A significant project is the construction of a 5 km tunnel costing ₹3,500 crore from Shiv Murti to Nelson Mandela Marg. This will ease traffic in busy areas like Mahipalpur and Rangpuri. Additionally, a bypass will connect the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway to Noida, and other improvements will provide better connectivity between different parts of Delhi and nearby cities like Ghaziabad and Noida.
In the next two years, the government plans to spend ₹1 lakh crore to transform Delhi’s infrastructure. This will not only improve transportation but also tackle air pollution, supporting the city’s growth and sustainability.
This comprehensive investment aims to make Delhi’s transportation system smoother, faster, and more eco-friendly.
