DNA DATA BANK OF JAPAN

Introduction

The DNA Data Bank of Japan (DDBJ) is one of the three primary nucleotide sequence databases in the world, alongside the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) GenBank and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) European Nucleotide Archive (ENA).

Services Available Under DDBJ

  • AGD:
    • It is a control access database for sharing individual-level genotype and phenotype information among specific researchers.
    • AGD services are hosted by the DDBJ group cloud in collaboration with the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development.
  • BioProject:
    • The BioProject database represents a higher-order organization of research projects and the corresponding data which is deposited into several archival databases maintained by members of INSDC.
    • The DDBJ BioProject issues an accession number with the prefix "PRJDB" to the submitted projects, which are exchanged with EBI and NCBI.
  • BioSample:
    • The BioSample database contains descriptions of biological source materials used in experimental assays.
    • BioSample include a cell line, Primary Tissue Biopsy or Environmental Isolate.
  • DRA:
    • DRA stores raw sequencing data and alignment information generated from high throughput sequencing platforms.
    • DRA data collaboration with NCBI, Sequence Read Achieve (SRA) and EBI sequence read Achieve (ERA).
  • GEA:
    • GEA is a public database of functional genomic data such as gene expression, epigenetics and genotyping SNP Array.
  • MetaboBank:
    • A public repository for metabolomics data obtained from mass spectrometry (MS), NMR, and imaging MS.
  • GG Genome
    • It is an ultrafast sequence search tool for DNA.
  • GGRNA
    • It is a Google-like ultrafast search engine for genes and transcripts.
  • DFAST
    • DFAST is an automatic annotation service for prokaryotic genomes.
    • DFAST generates an annotation file submittable to DDBJ.
  • MSS
    • Submission of large-scale data such as WGS, complete genome and TSA.
    • Submission with long sequences greater than 500kb in its length.
  • NSSS
    • Interactive nucleotide sequence submission system via web wizard
  • MAFFT
    • Fast multiple alignment tool for nucleotide and amino acid sequences.

Conclusion

Overall, DDBJ serves as a vital resource for the global scientific community, facilitating the sharing and exchange of nucleotide sequence data and supporting research in genetics, genomics, and related fields.
